'2020 has been rough, but yesterday was Supreme': Ruth Bader Ginsburg officiates couple's wedding

[Sept. 1, 2020: William Cummings]

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg declared Barb Solish and Danny Kazin to be lawfully wedded in a 1-0 decision during a private, outdoor ceremony Sunday.

Ginsburg, 87, officiated the couple's wedding, according to a tweet from Solish that showed the justice sitting between the couple at a lectern, clad in her judicial robe and signature black-and white-collar.

"2020 has been rough, but yesterday was Supreme," Solish wrote.

Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg told The Associated Press that Ginsburg is a close friend of one of the families and the wedding was held at a private residence. Solish is the director of marketing and communications for the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Kazin works for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

In another tweet, Solish added, "And don't worry, we tested negative!" presumably referring to COVID-19 and in anticipation of concerns about Ginsburg being exposed to the coronavirus.

Ginsburg announced in July she was undergoing chemotherapy after lesions were discovered on her liver. It is her fifth battle with cancer in 20 years.

The wedding photo marked the first sighting of the associate justice in months. Before her cancer diagnosis, Ginsburg and the other eight members of the court have been out of sight since March, when the coronavi outbreak began in the U.S. Since then, they have been hearing arguments remotely and issuing their decisions online.
