They're Going to Need a Bigger Tub: World's Largest Rubber Duck Coming to Fort Worth

[June 16, 2021: Samantha Calimbahin]

You may have seen photos of it floating around on the internet — a giant, inflatable rubber duck hanging out on the waterfront or on land at a local festival and, naturally, attracting spectators to come and grab a selfie with the oversized novelty. Well, come July, Fort Worthians will get to see that duck for themselves and find out if it's — dare we say it — all it's quacked up to be. (Sorry, we had to.)

The World's Largest Rubber Duck is coming to Trinity Park from July 23 – 25 as part of the Big #KindnessDuck Party, a free event that will feature 22 acres of food trucks, vendors, and tents showcasing the work of local nonprofits. Event host Kindness Duck Project is also setting up a 250-foot sandy area it's calling Trinity Beach and partnering with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and Museum School for children's activities. Confirmed food vendors include Big Kat Burgers, Cousins Maine Lobster, and Chimy's.

The big draw, however, is the duck — two of them, actually: a Mama Duck that stands at six stories tall and her Baby Duck, which stands at 10 feet. The ducks will be set up just north of the duck pond between River Drive and the river itself.

So what's the point of all this? According to Kindness Duck Project executive director Kyle Wagner, "We are doing all of this for the sake of kindness — to show kindness to the amazing people and businesses in our communities; to show kindness to friend, family, and strangers alike; to show kindness to Cowtown and everything that's great in it. In order to generate a large amount of kindness, you have to help grow it; to grow it, you first need to plant it."

Kindness Duck Project is a nonprofit run by Wagner; his wife, Cye; Tokyo Cafe owner Mary Ho; and Mark Burrows, the director of children’s ministries at First United Methodist Church.

The organization is currently seeking charities, food vendors, and retailers that are interested in participating. More information is available at kindnessduck.com.
